VA Tech Student Intern Fellowship

About the Role

This fellowship is for a student interested in Systems Engineering. You will join the Mission Systems Secure Systems Department and help shape, define, and design communication solutions that connect militaries around the world. As a Systems Engineer, you will design and develop military products that ensure safe and protected communication, working with multi-discipline engineering teams on total system solutions for domestic and international customers.

Students will experience the full communication design process, including system-level trades, requirements development, system architecture and design, performance assessment, integration and test, verification, validation and support of fielded products. The work is fast-paced and team-based, and it rewards talent and initiative.

What You Will Do

• Perform analysis, architecture and design across the total system product lifecycle, including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
• Perform functional analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
• Decompose customer specifications and system-level requirements into sub-system and piece-part requirements, and develop verification criteria and plans.
• Research and evaluate changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems or other assets to improve the quality of products and services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including the Scrum Master and Product Owner roles.
• Experience with integration, verification and validation phases of a product.
• Experience with tools such as MATLAB, C++ and Python.
