What You Will Do

As a Software Engineering Intern within Tactical Communications, you'll contribute directly to the future of our software-defined tactical radio platforms, advanced networking solutions, and state-of-the-art cryptographic systems. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers across multiple disciplines, gaining hands-on experience with modern development tools, embedded systems, and innovative approaches to trusted communications. Whether you're optimizing performance, enhancing robustness, or exploring new design concepts, your work will help ensure our products meet real operational needs.

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday summer internship, that will run May/June to August.

• Engage as a part of a team developing embedded software, networking and communication products using C/C++, Python, and Rust
• Support project success by collaborating with others across the full software development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, test development, and verification)
• Participate in new software initiatives and work as a part of a collaborative team: supporting each other and helping to make decisions that impact the overall cost, schedule, and technical performance of your team

• Gain practical embedded software development experience and mentorship opportunities to develop your professional skill sets
• Collaborate with subject matter experts in our area and obtain hands-on experience with new and innovative technologies
• Engage with a multidisciplinary team to develop a cross-functional skill set
• Develop technical expertise in the software discipline and on your projects and programs

Qualifications You Must Have

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session
• Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session
• Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects

Qualifications We Prefer

• Active U.S. Department of Defense Clearance or the ability to obtain one
• Some experience with C/C++, Rust, or Python programming languages
• Some experience with Git or other version control systems
• Familiarity with embedded software development
• Familiarity with Linux development environments
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience

• Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
