Mechanical Engineering Intern

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the world's fastest aircraft. We prioritize relentless hardware iteration to deliver high-speed systems for the modern battlefield, working with the Department of War to provide the capabilities our nation and allies need.

We are looking for talented students with mechanical engineering experience to join our Mechanical Team in Los Angeles. This team handles the design and integration of hydraulic systems, fuel systems, propulsion, avionics, and their supporting structures for advanced supersonic aircraft.

Responsibilities

• Support structural design of vehicle subsystems including hydraulics, fuel systems, propulsion, and avionics.
• Perform structural and thermal analyses using hand calculations and FEA.
• Lead trade studies across mechanical, fluid, and avionics subsystems, focusing on mass efficiency, cost, and performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to ensure practical, producible designs aligned with program goals.
• Own hardware development from concept through design, fabrication, integration, and test.
• Present technical content in internal reviews and represent the team in cross-functional and supplier/customer design reviews.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university (undergraduate, master's, or Ph.D. program).
• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal Fluids, Structural, or similar engineering field.
• Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
• Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
• Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.

Internship durations: Spring around 16 weeks (January to April), Summer around 12 weeks (May to August).
