What You'll Do

BCG X teams own the full analytics value chain, from framing new business challenges and designing algorithms to implementing and deploying scalable solutions. They also help colleagues and clients fully embrace AI. Product offerings range from fully custom builds to industry-specific AI software.

As a Forward Deployed AI Scientist, you will apply data science methods and analytics to real-world business problems across industries. You will partner with clients in several BCG regions and on key topics such as climate change, helping them design, build, and deploy new solutions.

Additional responsibilities include developing thought leadership for scientific communities, writing papers, and leading conferences on behalf of BCG X. Successful candidates are intellectually curious builders who bias toward action, are scrappy, and communicate well.

The role suits people with a passion for data science, statistics, operations research, and transforming organizations into AI-led innovators. Successful candidates have the following:

• Comfort in a client-facing role with the ambition to lead teams
• An ability to distill complex results or processes into simple, clear visualizations
• An ability to explain sophisticated data science concepts clearly
• Enjoyment of building things and writing code collaboratively with modern development tools (software development or DevOps experience is a bonus)
• Significant experience applying advanced analytics to varied business situations and a proven ability to synthesize complex data
• A deep understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their mathematical foundations, and the ability to translate them into business implications for clients
• Strong project management skills

What You'll Bring

This position is open to students currently pursuing a full-time Master's degree or PhD who will graduate between December 2027 and August 2028.

The program is evaluative, and interns may receive full-time offers. The internship operates in an office hub model. If you receive a full-time offer, you can move to a different office location outside the summer hubs.

You must live within a reasonable commuting distance of your home office and work in that office as directed. The role offers an accelerated path for personal and professional growth, and it sometimes requires extended hours and travel to client sites.

The first-year base compensation for this role is $155,000 USD for Forward Deployed AI Scientist II, $171,000 USD for Forward Deployed AI Scientist III, and $200,000 USD for Senior Forward Deployed AI Scientist. Candidates are also eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus and a Profit Sharing and Retirement Fund (PSRF) contribution.
