About the job

Duolingo's mission is to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available, and there is still more work to do. That is where this role comes in.

Duolingo is the world's most popular learning app. Beyond its core learning product, it also offers English proficiency testing with the Duolingo English Test and is adding new subjects, including Math and Music, to the Duolingo app.

About the Role

As a QA Specialist I, you will help deliver high-quality Duolingo experiences by testing new features across iOS, Android, and Web. Working within a cross-functional product team, you will partner with engineers, product managers, and designers to find issues, communicate quality risks, and advocate for learners. You will build product and testing expertise while receiving guidance from more experienced QA teammates.

You will

  • Manually test new features across iOS, Android, and Web using regression, exploratory, and acceptance testing
  • Perform sanity checks on Duolingo release and branch builds, and help validate bug fixes before and after deployment
  • Write clear, detailed, and reproducible bug reports, and work with engineers and teammates to diagnose issues
  • Build deep knowledge of Duolingo products and ask thoughtful questions about expected behavior, edge cases, and the learner experience
  • Identify potential quality issues and raise risks with guidance from more experienced QA teammates
  • Prioritize testing tasks within assigned projects, focusing on areas with high learner impact
  • Advocate for learners by evaluating features for correctness, clarity, and usability
  • Follow and contribute to QA processes, documentation, and procedures while learning how quality practices scale across teams
  • Communicate progress, questions, and blockers clearly to cross-functional partners

You have

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience testing consumer mobile or web applications
  • Strong attention to detail and an interest in finding, reproducing, and documenting software issues
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, designers, and QA teammates
  • An organized approach to managing assigned work and changing priorities
  • Curiosity, sound problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high-quality work
  • The ability to ask questions, incorporate feedback, and build expertise in an evolving product environment

Exceptional candidates will have

  • Familiarity with basic automation tools, lightweight scripting, or AI-assisted testing tools, even if not a primary responsibility
  • Familiarity with regression, exploratory, acceptance, or usability testing
  • Experience writing reproducible bug reports or working with issue-tracking tools
  • Familiarity with the Duolingo app

The offered salary depends on several factors, including work experience, skills, and internal peer comparisons, and the posted range may change. This role also includes equity compensation in addition to base salary.
