2027 Summer Intern: ADAS Software Engineer

About the Team

The ADAS Software organization plays a key role in developing software for GM's advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving capabilities. Interns may support the ADAS Application Software team or the ADAS Mapping Software team, collaborating with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, integrated, and tested software for features such as Super Cruise, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, Front and Rear Impact Mitigation, Lane Keep Assist, and other ADAS capabilities.

The ADAS Application Software team focuses on software enabling ADAS features and vehicle behaviors. The ADAS Mapping Software team focuses on software that uses map-related data and services to support ADAS functionality. Work may span development, testing, integration, analysis, and documentation, depending on team and project needs.

About the Role

As an intern, you will contribute to software projects supporting GM ADAS systems. Your focus may include application software, mapping software, embedded software, testing, integration, or related development activities. You will work with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to help develop robust software solutions and improve the reliability and efficiency of ADAS products.

What You'll Do

• Architect, design, implement, integrate, and test software solutions for ADAS systems.
• Write and maintain code in C, C++, Kotlin, Python, and/or Java.
• Support software development for ADAS application functionality, mapping-related capabilities, or other software components as assigned.
• Analyze software behavior and help improve reliability, performance, and efficiency.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Perform unit testing, regression testing, integration testing, and system testing.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners to investigate issues and support software integration.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Embedded software experience or knowledge.
• Software product line experience or knowledge.
• MATLAB/Simulink experience or knowledge.
• C, C++, Kotlin, and/or Java software skills.
• Experience with software development, testing, integration, or technical documentation.
• Interest in ADAS, automated driving, mapping, or automotive software systems.
• Intent to return to a degree program after completion of the internship.
• Graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.

Compensation

• The monthly salary range for this role is $8,100 – $8,700 per month.
• GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program.
