About the Internship Program

Our summer internship program runs for 10 to 12 weeks, starting in May/June and ending in August/September.
It’s designed to be fast-paced, flexible, and full of learning opportunities. Interns will work remotely from within the United States, collaborating virtually while taking on meaningful projects and facing exciting new challenges daily.


What You’ll Be Working On

As a Database/Optimizer Engineering Intern, you’ll be at the core of Teradata’s innovation. The heart of our system is our powerful query optimization engine, and you’ll work closely on enhancing and advancing it. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating and designing advanced query optimization techniques.
  • Contributing to the design, development, and testing of new features for Teradata’s optimizer engine.
  • Running benchmarks and performance evaluations across different systems.
  • Applying machine learning, scalability, and automation techniques.
  • Collaborating in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
  • Communicating effectively with team members, managers, and stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking motivated, talented individuals who are passionate about technology and innovation. To qualify, you should have:

  • Enrollment in a MS or PhD program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027.
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Strong programming skills (preferably in C++).
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of database concepts and SQL programming.
  • Familiarity with distributed data processing (e.g., MapReduce, Hadoop).
  • Exposure to open table formats like Iceberg and Delta Lake is a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
