As a Software Engineer intern, you will help plan, design, develop, and test software systems or applications for enhancements and new products used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet-related programs. You will develop software, tools, and code supporting design, infrastructure, and technology platforms, as well as commercial or end-user applications. You will use current programming languages and technologies to write code, perform testing, and debug issues with robust documentation, deployment procedures, and maintenance processes.

Academic credit may be available through the Microsoft Intern Program; university-specific requirements beyond academic credit are not supported. This internship begins on 1 February 2027 and spans six months.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to solve complex problems through sound and creative engineering.
• Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
• Quickly learn new engineering methods and incorporate them into work processes.
• Seek feedback and apply internal or industry best practices to improve technical solutions.
• Demonstrate skill in time management and completing software projects in a cooperative team environment.
• Review current developments and proactively seek new knowledge to improve availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, with proven experience coding in languages including but not limited to C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. Equivalent experience is acceptable.
• Must have at least one additional quarter or semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.

Additional or Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree (or currently pursuing) in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) of technical engineering experience coding in languages including but not limited to C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. A Master's Degree (or currently pursuing) in a related field with proven coding experience is also acceptable, as is equivalent experience.

The base pay range for this internship is USD $5,690.00 - $11,210.00 per month. A different range applies to specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, where the base pay range is USD $7,410.00 - $12,250.00 per month.
