Core Training includes classroom sessions, departmental presentations, interaction with senior management, peer networking, and working in teams on group projects. OJT responsibilities vary by department and are assigned by the department manager. You may also handle additional projects assigned by the department manager or Leadership Development Manager.

Department Description

The Family Wealth team delivers comprehensive investment management services to Wealth Advisory Services clients. As a trainee, you will work within a professional team environment and help support the delivery of an integrated wealth management offering aligned with each client's financial goals.

Department Responsibilities

You'll partner with Advisors to understand the different functions within the department: gaining insight into client relationships, products and services, policies and procedures that protect those relationships and the Bank, as well as portfolio review. Your responsibilities may also include:

  • Maintain current knowledge of financial markets, Wilmington Trust investment process, and wealth management offerings
  • Articulate current and relevant economic, financial and market information, as well as all available products and services to clients and prospects
  • Prepare and review portfolio recommendation letters for advisory and co-trustee accounts, AO coordinations or best fit recommendations, and investment performance reviews, as needed with the Investment Advisor
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of various Bank resources to facilitate client service delivery and expand client relationships
  • Serve as a support associate to assigned Investment Advisor(s) as required and participate in sales efforts
  • Core Training: Participate in ten weeks of training throughout the one-year assignment to learn banking, basic financial skills, technical skills, and leadership/interpersonal skills. Develop a solid understanding of banking functions, processes, and operations.
  • Group Projects: Participate in two group project assignments, working with a team of peers to build relationships within the team, with project sponsors, internal and external contacts, and senior management. Teams present recommendations and potential solutions to senior management at the conclusion of each project.

How You Can Grow Your Career

You can further develop your career by continuing to build your foundation of knowledge of Wilmington Trust products and services while working as an Investment Associate, supporting Investment Advisors on the team. A successful Associate looking to grow beyond the role would have the desire to build upon their education and seek certifications to assist in their career as they work towards a role as an Investment Advisor.

Receive job specific training, general training in banking, communication and leadership, and personalized coaching and feedback. Performance measures may include several objective test scores, peer and sponsor feedback from group projects, facilitator feedback, Leadership Development Manager-MDP feedback, Department Manager feedback, final assessment score, and year-end performance appraisal from the Department Manager.
