As a Gilead intern, you will contribute to high-impact, meaningful projects that advance our mission and provide real-world experience at one of the most innovative organizations in the world. You will also have opportunities to participate in special events, including professional development and leadership presentations, social and network building activities, and local community volunteer programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement stochastic optimization models to support drug portfolio composition, investment allocation, and go/no-go decisions under clinical, regulatory, and commercial uncertainty.
- Investigate advanced optimization approaches, including decomposition algorithms and large-scale mathematical programming methods, to improve the scalability of decision-support models.
- Build and evaluate predictive models, including machine learning models, to forecast clinical trial enrollment and support study planning decisions.
- Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Data Engineering, and AI Research teams to translate quantitative analyses into actionable recommendations.
- Validate models against historical trial data with interpretable outputs built for cross-functional teams.
- Showcase your work with a final presentation (PPT) near the conclusion of your internship.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the internship.
- Must be enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's, Master's, MBA, JD, or PhD program at a nationally accredited U.S. college or university, with continued full-time enrollment required in the Fall semester following the internship.

- Prior exposure to clinical trial operations, drug development, or healthcare data.
- Familiarity with multistage stochastic programming.
- Proficiency with Pyomo, Gurobi, or other algebraic modeling languages and solvers.
- Experience with adaptive trial designs, basket studies, or platform trials.
- Hands-on experience with gradient boosted trees, random forests, and neural networks using XGBoost, LightGBM, Keras, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
