The Role
Assist with routine metallurgical and physical analysis and laboratory testing of submitted or self-collected samples of materials used in products and manufacturing processes. Work without continual supervision, but be frequently instructed and checked by the manager.
What You'll Do
- Materials testing, standardization, and reporting in the metallurgical laboratory
- Make reports and recommendations based on test analyses
- Process modifications and continuous improvement
- Process management and quality documentation (e.g., error proofing, PFMEA, Process Control Plan)
- Production and maintenance support and guidance in heat treating areas (technical troubleshooting, direction, and operator training as it relates to metallurgical processes)
- Establish and evaluate testing techniques and procedures
- Planning activities
- Audit metallurgical processes to defined requirements (CQI-9)
- Safely operate, verify calibration, and maintain laboratory equipment (magnetic particle inspection, band saw, abrasive cut off saw, grinders, polishers, hardness testers, microscopes, image analysis systems, carbon determinator)
- Conduct appropriate chemical, metallurgical, and physical tests of process or production material using precision laboratory equipment
- Approve material meeting established criteria and report exceptions
- Maintain complete and accurate test records
- Adjust technical processes based on test results
- Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards and continuously improve standardized work
- Input raw information into results database and provide analysis
- Provide written reports of analysis
- Interact with various manufacturing database systems
Required Qualifications
- Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science Engineering
- Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029
- Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week
- Must be willing to work in a plant environment

- Knowledge of materials, substances, and their characteristics
- Comfortable with technology tools (e.g., PCs, Microsoft Office, web-front databases, PLCs, CNCs, robots)

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience

Physical Requirements
- Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections
- Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals. Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes
- Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold)
- Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work
- Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs
- Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned facility on a full-time basis.
Each successful candidate will be offered an onsite role at a specific location. Candidate location preferences are considered but cannot be guaranteed.
