Channel Integration Co-Op

Job Description

As a Read/Write Channel Integration Engineer, you will work with industry leading Hard Disk Drive (HDD) technology, evaluating new channel features, performing failure analysis, and developing scripts and tools to test an advanced digital signal processing chip used for data recording and readback.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Integrate vendor channels to maximize HDD read/write performance.
• Test HDDs in a hands-on, lab-based environment, using oscilloscopes to aid in failure analysis.
• Develop and execute hardware test plans; summarize and present results within and outside the channel team.
• Use software skills to support and develop effective test tools.
• Work closely with vendor technical support teams and internal Western Digital product development teams.

This role is part of WD's early career development program, ideal for individuals at the early stages of their professional career. Participants receive foundational training through structured onboarding, mentorship, and a curated development curriculum. The responsibilities are typically aligned with candidates who have approximately 0-2+ years of relevant professional experience, though candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Required

• Currently pursuing a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Persistence on problem/issue resolution.

Skills

• Excellent communication skills and a good team player.
• Strong programming skills (Python, C/C++, Tcl, etc.) preferred.
