  • Full time

Overview

The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated individual for a summer internship in our Performance Analysis team. As a member of our group, you will handle complex analytical work and see a multi-faceted project through to completion, chosen to reflect team priorities at the start of the internship. An aptitude in vehicle dynamics, controls, optimization, and data analytics will serve as a strong foundation, but a successful candidate will be driven by genuine curiosity and ingenuity in finding optimal solutions. You will work with a senior mentor to learn specialized industry knowledge and track project progress through regular touchpoints.

The Team

Our Performance Analysis team is a small, highly skilled group dedicated to advancing our organization's ability to derive actionable insight from data and tools across the GM Motorsport program. The group collaborates across the greater Motorsports organization to identify, develop, and implement projects with long-term value and learning potential. Work can take many forms, from developing performance metrics and creating analysis procedures to refining simulation tools and implementing methods to extract greater learnings from our data sources. A diverse set of skills, ranging from vehicle dynamics to data analytics, is regularly required.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with GM Motorsports personnel across departments.
  • Learn and utilize Motorsports-specific toolchains and software packages.
  • Complete a primary project during your internship, which includes:
    • Analyzing potential solution approaches and proposing the best course of action.
    • Performing analysis and development work using vehicle dynamics understanding, internal tools, and available data.
    • Documenting work, versioning code in GitHub, and detailing procedures in Confluence.
    • Producing a final report with findings and process summary upon project completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Engineering or Physics.
  • Must be graduating between January 2028 or later.
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in motorsports with documented involvement in school project teams (Formula SAE, Indy Autonomous Challenge, or similar).
  • Completed system dynamics, controls, and/or vehicle dynamics coursework.
  • Proficiency coding in Python or similar, with experience interfacing with databases.

GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Do not apply if you will need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including direct company sponsorship, entry of GM as the immigration employer of record, or any work authorization requiring written submission or other immigration support (e.g., H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc.).

Work Arrangement

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the successful candidate is expected to report to the Charlotte Technical Center four times per week, at minimum.

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program. To facilitate relocation benefits, please apply using the permanent address you would move from.

Start dates for this internship are May 24th and June 14th of 2027.
